“What is adequate [treatment] is not practical, so what is practical has to be adequate.”

Dr Bharat Shah (S Badve, Ann Intern Med. 2005;143:149)

Based on an idea conceived by Sandeep Kochar ('93 batch), KOSHISH is an enterprise in community and grassroots participation. Comprised of GMC Chandigarh alumni and students, the principal aim of KOSHISH is to instill a sense of social responsibility and community leadership in the current generation of medical students. Towards achieving this goal, we encourage current students to identify indigent patients at our medical college hospital, and then with help from alumni and GMCCOSA, provide them with the resources necessary for their recovery. Besides being a channel for us to contribute back into our community, KOSHISH serves as a means for us, the alumni, to be able to connect back with our alma mater, our colleagues and our community.

Developing Indigenous Resources (DIR) is a California (USA) based non-governmental organization which works on developing less-privileged communities by facilitating the use of local indigenous resources. It is currently involved in a long-term project in Janta Colony, a slum near Chandigarh. Click HERE to learn more about DIR and how you can help.
